Photos depicting the people of Singur in 2007 protesting the land acquisition conducted by the Left Front-ruled state government so Tata Motors can build a factory in the area. The land that was initially taken, and later was ordered to be returned, was the livelihood of the people of Singur since agriculture is the primary industry in the area. Although Tata Motors eventually left West Bengal, protesters and activists suffered a lot of violence as a consequence of their resistance to the unjust land acquisition.
